For #drawtober2020 prompt 5 ancient rituals.
Many cultures share the ritual of leaving offerings to gods or spirits, some made nightly, on special days, or when trying to garner favor. Even simple things like bread or cream can be left as an offering. #drawtoberancientrituals
New artwork ✨ " cultures muse "
oil and acrylic on canvas
size " 90 x 60 " .
even if the clothings are just 'inspired' by SEA cultures, the aesthetic looks... off? Cos I expected for them to look like the photos below.
(Queens of Langkasuka, Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa, uteri Gunung Ledang musical, Upin Ipin: Keris Siamang Tunggal) https://t.co/rGNGVVsXFb
@LaXtopher @north_van Yes that all was very eye opening to me. Sad the world is getting to such stages. When you have entire cultures thinking this is ok it scares me. The Lorax comes to mind :)
Comics heavily based on South East Asian cultures
1) Garudayana by Yuniarto (Indonesia)
2) Kijiya by Zint (Malaysia)
I'd be tempted to let it go as a case of
'aren't these characters all Jotaro??'
But it does suffer from not being from a real culture,
rather a mishmash of South-Eastern ones...
just like Katara.
So a more... unclear trope.
And it's not a product of any of said cultures. https://t.co/eEnMyz0tyQ
On the other hand, throughout history, many ancient and more modern cultures have done exactly this, creating or exploring myths and idealizations that have been shaped and reshaped over the centuries.
