Tragic news, Christopher Tolkien, third and last surviving son of the legendary J. R. R. Tolkien, has died at 95. RIP. He drew the original maps featured in The Lord of the Rings, and posthumously edited and published his father's unreleased work like The Silmarillion.
In memory of Christopher John Reuel Tolkien (21 November 1924 – 15/16 January 2020)
Thank you for your hard work on collecting and editing your father works ... from “The Silmarillion” to “the Fall of Gondolin”
I couldn’t find any words to express my sadness of losing you.
RIP
Christopher Tolkien has died
JRR Tolkien's son worked diligently to bring us the Silmarillion and related Middle-earth texts
But he also repackaged material in multiple commercial releases and published drafts JRR did not want seen
Where does Tolkien scholarship go from here?
