Washington. @PhillipsMuseum is simply breathtaking. Its intimate galleries refresh the viewer. Glance one way, see a remarkable late Matisse; the other way, Renior's Boating Party, a masterpiece of joy and life's pleasures, conveyed using all of the techniques of Titian.
#GoogleDoodle celebrated the late #Algerian #artist Baya Mahieddine, whose work transcended many traditional styles and inspired the works of Picasso, Matisse, and Andre Breton

It's only fitting that Henri Matisse was born #OnThisDay in 1869. His vivid paintings and cutouts are an exuberant celebration of Life with all its wonders. 'Dance' (1910), oil on canvas #HappyNewYear2019

When I was an art history student, the paintings in the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia could not be reproduced in colour. Barnes himself banned colour reproductions. You only saw them in black ands white. What a shock when I finally saw Joi de Vivre in colour! #MatisseBirthday
