I love reading about projects of cataloguing natural world of 'The Orient'. One of my favourites is a mid-17thC text 'Hortus Malabaricus' compiled by van Rheede- a detailed study of plants in Malabar incl. these fascinating sketches!

11 May 1645 Parliamentary commander Sir John Meldrum was mortally wounded whilst besieging Castle. This was only days after he had survived a fall over a 200 foot cliff there, as his cloak then acted like a parachute!! 😳

7 May 1631 Oliver Cromwell, together with his wife, mother & sisters, sold their property in moving to St Ives. Cromwell left his home town due to financial problems & political issues, but returned there to recruit during the Civil War.
