Martin Lewis (1881-1962) was an Australian-born printmaker who traveled the world before settling in New York City in 1900. His images of 1920s New York street clearly influenced Eric Hopper's famous "Nighthawks" (pic 4).

The illustrations in the #WondLa books are a combination of pen drawing (on vellum) and digital coloring. From there, we'd create 2 printing plates for the printer, which was tricky. The duotone process was inspired by the early editions of "The Wonderful Wizard of OZ" from 1900.

After her aunt/mother-in-law purchased the island of Niʻihau to rule over its people, Isabella McHutcheson Sinclair wrote "Indigenous Flowers of the Hawaiian Islands", sending specimens to @KewGardens. She warned against habitat loss and invasives, and died yesterday in 1900.
