1942年1月2日、朝鮮独立運動家・金擎天がソ連のラーゲリで死去。日本の陸軍中尉だったが三・一運動を契機に独立運動に身を投じ、主にシベリアで活動。ソ連国籍となるも大粛清により獄死。スターリンの死後に名誉回復した。「金日成将軍伝説」の多くは金擎天の活動が原型だったとされる。
