My favourite games of 1989 – No.14

Hybris

A superb shooter that wouldn’t have looked out of place in an 80s arcade. Nice presentation (you can change the game’s parameters), a cool electro-rock soundtrack & a perfectly judged difficulty curve, make Hybris brilliantly playable.

The objects on the C64 version are kinda small, compared to, say, the Amiga version, and certainly the arcade. But it's really got some good speed to it. Whereas, if I go back to the Amiga version.. It's pretty, but it feels kinda slow. 😁

Vide & Flada prep Rannath for the Breeding Arcade. A Snow Elf is a rare specimen and sure to bring in a lot of money for the Derran and Gremlin duo.

I watched today, and it made me miss the 90's and the neon aesthetic so much! So, I decided to visit a little retro arcade... virtually, of course. 😉

It was obviously a C64 take on Karate Champ at the arcade. But that had quite basic, cartoon-y graphics. The characters and backgrounds in Exploding Fist seemed 'realistic'. Like a whole step up from that. Very rare to see something that looked better than its arcade counterpart.

got myself a swag ratsona who sells cutlery on the back market in arcade. her chat as arcade rats is v cool canon lore.

Games I really want to see in Knuckles Chaotix and SegaSonic Arcade. Heck shove SegaSonic Bros. in as an unlock. I think I would not only be awesome but also allow people to play really hard to find games. Please!!!!

Yeah, exactly. I only played the arcade one a couple of days ago. Trying the C64 one, the pace felt a little slower, but overall the structure and gameplay felt basically like the arcade. So job well done there. 👍 (And targets on the ground were easier to hit, which I liked.) 😁

So I did get the chance to play the C64 version tonight. It's pretty good. A bit slower than the arcade game, and not as pretty (obviously), but it's got a nice soundtrack, and the gameplay is pretty good. 👍 (I actually find the controls easier to understand than the arcade.) 😁

Welcome to the strange yet cozy section at the arcade. Anyway I wanted to just give a late congratulation to Ina hitting a million subscribers. Ina deserves it and she has been an incredible inspiration to me these last months.

What? Are you jealous the comic books wouldn't be able to sell the same way as the manga and the comic book industry is going to died the same way as the arcade.

Your unique dinosaur game is...

Savage Quest (1999) for Arcade. A 3D beat-em-up where you play as a Tyrannosaurus Rex and eat people and smaller dinosaurs.
