Today's epiphany was that they're probably vegetarian. Their clan lived on ships in space for a couple centuries, and keeping livestock in space is just impractical. A hydroponics ship is much easier.

Vehicles are a common sight in the wastes, arguably more common than livestock, which is often mutated, difficult to tame, and dangerous.
Scrabs are lazy beetle creatures who dwell underground. They can be fattened up in order to produce a special milk-like substance, or you can get extra of their soft (and slimy) white meat. Though gross, they are a valuable livestock animal for those living beneath the surface.
