I think it was the inspiration for the story of Nimrodel and Amroth in The Legolas speaks of the Elven-maid Nimrodel, who got lost on her way to the west shores of Middle-earth.

‘For Nimrod' from Davidson's Variations. Nimrod, the most loved of Elgar’s Variations is named after Elgar's friend Jaeger which is German for hunter & Nimrod is the 'mighty hunter' in Genesis 10. Jaeger sustained the composer through his many and severe periods of depression.
