Like many recent YA faery novels, ecological concerns are central to the plot.

working on Null's monster form! I imagine her being a gangly bat/cat/ape sort of creature

she uses echolocation to get around and senses smell thru her palate. Can't fly with those tiny chicken 'wings', but uses them to glide and pick up speed! Hind legs are the grabby ones
