i love the aesthetic of neck gills but think ribs are more likely. THOUGH in the spiderwick fieldguide theres a Pacific Sea-Maid whose hair is external gill filaments which i thought was fascinating!! (the illust field guide was 200% formative for me so i am somewhat biased)

Eyyy thanks! I've only experimented with speen filaments a few other times recently but I'd like to do it more often. I'm not convinced they were super fluffy but a few here and there for extra display probably couldn't hurt.
