A brief sketch testing out gradient mapping on grayscale. I definitely need more practice with it. Though it's definitely easier than individually picking out each colored shade and hoping for the best.

More seriously though, you might notice that every once in a while I'll try to render things a little differently to refresh my process a little. This time I tried the grayscale. It honestly wasn't very satisfying, but it helped me look forward to "working on a next piece" again.

Recommendation: play around with figures to make them pretty even though you'll eventually have to turn them into grayscale. It's a lot of fun to see fish traces in nice colors 🙂🐟🐠🐡🦈
