This recent Steller's Jay commission is one of my favourite paintings ever, I think! Always interesting to paint a bird that I've never seen except in books! 🐦🦉🦆🦅🦃🦜🦚🦢

John James Audubon’s Birds of America (1826-1838) is the finest ornithological work ever published. Its 435 hand-coloured plates depict 495 species, 25 of which Audubon discovered himself. Less than 200 sets were completed & still fewer survive today.

It's today! We've put together some of our favourite picture books about birds, but we'd love to hear your choices, too - which birdy books always make you smile? https://t.co/jaznCTegYB
