nobu’s said that when you learn why watteau is Like That then you’ll love him even more, which i assume means that he, like the real watteau, is sickly as hell and enjoying every day of his life with reckless abandon bc who knows if he’ll live to tomorrow

The Perfect Accord.
Jean-Antoine Watteau.
Watteau was a French painter in the Baroque and Rococo styles. The less formal and theatrical Rococo was perfect for Watteau's invention of the fete galante or courtship party featuring colourful country settings.

@RedSonja2015 I love Watteau's paintings so much. The "fêtes galantes" in the woods...

"Les Plaisirs du bal" (the pleasures of the ball) by Jean-Antoine Watteau (1684 - 1721). He is credited with inventing the genre of fêtes galantes, scenes of bucolic and idyllic charm, suffused with a theatrical air.

Characterized by paintings that depict sumptuously dressed aristocrats in nature settings, Antoine Watteau’s distinct style forged the creation of an entirely new genre
termed fête galante. @StephenOngpin, stand 355, will bring this study to TEFAF New York Fall. #tefaf2018
@emeraldthiele Madeleine, the direct observation of the model is so immediate! This is my favorite male nude by Watteau. xx
