I can't remember if I saw Trap Door or Popeye first.
Either way, Popeye was one of the few C64 games based on animation/comic's that really managed to keep that animated feel to the characters. 👍

It doesn't bode well for the C64 version, when they opt to put the Speccy screenshot on the advert. 😁 (Actually, that Speccy one doesn't look too bad .. I should check it out.)

Most of my paddle gaming on the C64 was actually racing games. 😁 Revs and Le Mans were the main ones I'd play. Then a bit of Arkanoid.. but it didn't take too long to give up in frustration at that one. 😉

I got my paddles to play Revs. (Makes a great substitute for a steering wheel.) 👍 But I think Le Mans was probably the second game I had to try after Revs, just because it was amongst the earliest games I ever saw on the C64 and I wanted to play it with the 'proper' controls. 😁

Always fun playing any Monty gam, one of the best Platform game series on the Micros, Monty is a cool character also

Wow. That's good. 👍
Sometimes I saw it when there was, say, a C64 port of an arcade game. Usually it wasn't as good. But if the feel of it was there, and the patterns were about right, that made the experience a whole lot better. 😎

They tried to put this game on the Micros and if you are ok with 3 FPS it's worth a look just to see how they done it.

What could a conversion of Mortal Kombat 2 have been like? Well, possibly nowhere near as bad as Street Fighter 2 turned out, had this unofficial conversion fully gone ahead: https://t.co/kOt9wCTUUk

or depending on area of the world, a great shooter where you swap weapons and collect power-ups

Another classic top down racer, played this all the time, you could really punt the other players of the track or into hazardous, great fun.

I like to go back to games I played on the C64 as a kid and see if my memories of it are still accurate. 🤔 I remember Frank Bruno's Boxing being, erm, not that great. But honestly, I just don't like it. I don't like it at all. It's like they forgot to put in any fun gameplay. 😐

This wasn't one I ever played. But every time I see a C64 soccer game that looks remotely like this, it just gets me wanting to play International Soccer. ⚽️ 😁
