I'm researching for my new book, & I'm stumped on this one. When & why did spiky-style Tuscans become visual short-code for Mexico/tequila?
.
Is it because Joy Redick's 1989 for Wood Type collection is named after a Mexican plant? Why the name Mesquite?

The water had grown cool. When Jaime opened his eyes, he found himself staring at the stump of his sword hand. ‘The hand that made me Kingslayer.’ The goat had robbed him of his glory and his shame, both at once. ‘Leaving what? Who am I now?’

day 16 late: Red Stumpnose (Endangered)

Also known as Miss Lucy. They are endemic to South Africa and are slow growing and long-living.

One major threat to the species is localized overexploitation by recreational and commercial linefishers.
