30 days ago, someone told me to study values for a whole month and I would see a difference. Well, here I am now and I can tell the difference.

I hate how I've been wanting to draw for weeks now but art block said no and I ended up not even getting halfway done tho managed to make vent art. Initially even failing at that, I added deeper tones and lower values and then voila! My MC that I very rarely draw😔🤷‍♀️

the idea is that values should be readable on its own: even if it's b&w and zoomed out you should be able to tell whats happening at first glance.

Viewers' eyes go to the area with most contrast, so use higher contrast around the focal point or dim the contrast of the background

This b/w image was achieved by having a black filled layer (white or gray works too!) set to [Color] on top of the original image. Here the values make more sense as the leaves aren't as distinct and the b/w image feels as bright as the colored one.

I started doing thumbnails maybe a year ago, but really only when I draw portraits or as practice studies.
I try my best to just stick to three values, keep it simple, and only elaborate to capture the main gist and/or specific elements of what I want or need.
