So the creators of JWCC had concept art of the muscular proportions of a smilodon that might I add was completely accurate, for them to ignore those concept arts in favor of a more traditional tiger and lion proportions. They removed everything that made smilodon interesting.

For proportions i suggest getting a modeling app (i use magicposer, but there are a LOT out there).

Coloring: take a look at everyday objects - try to understand how and where light lands. Reflective surface = more contrast & bright highlights, matte fabric = low contrast

Howe's compositions are so good. One of my all time favorite scenes from the Silmarillion, rarely has good art (imo) because they always take 1 metaphor and blow it out of proportion (Morgoth looming like a mountain or something) but Howe's "fingolfin's challenge" is amazing
