I grew up reading Conan. John Buscema and Alfredo Alcala were the best pencil + inking team I’ve seen to date. Here’s a small tribute to the barbarian that cheered me up so many times!
The Wasp by John Buscema, and an unattributed photo of Yvonne Craig.

I spy with my little eye, another J.M. DeMatteis/Sal Buscema Spider-Man homage. Always a treat to see that run referenced!

This tradition in New Mutants would continue with other creations and other creators, including Warlock, Illyana’s Darkchylde iterations, Magma (co-created by McLeod and Sal Buscema) and, of course, Cable. 6/7

Alfredo Alcala was born OTD in 1925. He was already acclaimed in his native Philippines when he started doing horror tales for DC - a specialty his entire career - and eventually added lush inks over John Buscema's Conan. His comics work ended in 1996 and he died in 2000.
