in 1953: a USAF B-36 on a low-altitude exercise flight coming from Lajes AFB, crashes in Newfoundland (Canada) due to a navigation error, killing all 23 onboard. Among the victims was Brig Gen Richard E. Ellsworth, commander of the 28th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing.
