For this weeks #FridayFloraFauna here is a lovely sketch that was probably used for teaching purposes. It's based on specimens collected by Lyell & figured by Bunbury. Miller illustrated the published text....but these are very much #ArtistUnknown 🔍🎨🌿 #ExploreYourArchive
Want to explore more? This specimen, # UF 155655, has been digitized for research and can be found on @MorphoSource for zooming and twirling in 3D space: https://t.co/cscBgxhhSu
🐍 Or you can download the 3D files of body and/or skull. Look at these teeth!

This is scaled to the largest known specimen of Deinonychus, MCZ 4371. It is not quite as large as a Jurassic Park raptor (partially thanks to proportion differences), but I have no doubt this thing could kill someone.
Quick reconstruction of the new dromaeosaurid Dineobellator notohesperus. I wouldn't be suprised if this ends up being a species of Acheroraptor (if not just a specimen of the type species).
For #FossilFriday I present you these incredible associated skull (PMU-M3836) & mandible (PMU-M3837) of Yoshi minor I had the chance to scan in @UU_University 🦁🇸🇪 This specimen of #sabertoothed #felid was found in late #Miocene deposits in #China and described by Zdansky in 1924

Web Spinner was a spider BOW made in the Arklay Lab's early stages of t-Virus research, since gene editing was easier on creatures with ancient body structures. The t-Virus α strain was discovered in these specimens & they were disposed of, except some kept for data use. #REBHFun
The museum needs more specimens and @ShawnTails is on task ! The dapper fella is suiting up for adventure against all manner of weather and local conditions to get those hard to access species prowling around

#DYK Mycology is the study of fungi—mushrooms!
Violetta White Delafield was an early 20th century American botanist and mycologist who produced hundreds of beautiful drawings & watercolours of mushroom specimens.

@DanDagostino_ Nothing in particular - I’m doing C&S dissections on wrasses (looking at osteology). The seahorse was a piggy back specimen from another department. I don’t work on those, just helping them out with it. Not entirely sure what they’re looking for with those.
This is Lilly. Her hobbies include travelling around the world and hanging out with mummified specimen of questionable or unknown origin.
