While this is going out there, I figure I should make one addendum. They fade the mesh out at the edges with vertex colors and squeeze the texture coordinates a bit so that the cutoff is less sharp. So the curly mesh actually looks more like this:

I fiddled on the modelviewer and took a closer view to WW's hidden head and Jesus Christ, his face mesh and textures is so detailed despite having a small chance of getting seen ingame(recall) and it is even better than those models with exposed faces lol
