In 1216, King John was said to have lost England’s Crown Jewels somewhere in an estuary which is fed by the #rivers Witham, Well, Steeping, Nene & the Great Ouse.
The treasure is estimated to be worth £70million.

The Cambridgeshire dog-monkey is done. Here be the probably harmless Shug Monkey, frolicking on its way.

Another major early 20c woman artist, Mary Lowndes, 1908 at Linton, Cambridgeshire. The energetic Lowndes was responsible for many of the famous Suffragette banners and posters, and was also co-founder of the Glass House in Fulham where many artists produced windows. #AprilAngels
A pair of 15c censing #AprilAngels, surviving fragments from former crucifixion scenes at Wood Ditton, Cambridgeshire and Nowton, Suffolk. Both of these angels are likely reset incorrectly, in the wrong orientation.
Currant buns were a popular treat in Cambridgeshire. Many bakeries would sell their unsold day-old buns to poor children, earning them the nickname 'burnt bricks'. #FolkloreThursday

In Cambridgeshire it was considered unlucky for a girl to marry a man with a surname beginning with the same letter as her own:
'Change the name and not the letter,
Change for the worse and not the better.'

#ShugMonkey for #MythicMay! In the folklore of Cambridgeshire this creature is said to haunt Slough Hill Lane. It's described to have the body of a shaggy black sheep dog and the head of a monkey with huge shiny eyes. My brain just registered "huge shiny eyes" and went "aye-aye".
