Two recent paleo paintings I've made!
1: Dearc sgiathanach, a large Jurassic pterosaur from Scotland.
2: Leptocleidus, a freshwater Leptocleidid from the early Cretaceous.
Newest #watercolor is #Atrociraptor. Known only from some skull and teeth, this #dromaeosaur lived in what is now #Alberta, #Canada, in the late Cretaceous. Get ready for a much uglier version of it in the upcoming #JurassicWorldDominion movie. #scicomm #paleoart #dinosaur
Painted this one a while back, I thought I'd post it here because it looks half-decent.
Painting of the Scorpios Rex from Camp Cretaceous. I took some design liberties with this creature while painting. :/
Cladoselache is great and all, but thylacocephalans are seriously wild. An extinct class of predatory arthropods w/ enormous eyes, known from Ordovician to Cretaceous. Here's amazing material of the Jurassic Dollocaris, w/ reconstruction by Andrey Atuchin https://t.co/6IULVFlvYg
Even though it's been a year, I still can't believe Enantiornithine birds, or at least one genus or enantiornithine bird, inhabited Madagascar during the Late Cretaceous. Makes you wonder if there were any genera/species that lived on the island and the African Continent.
T is for Tricerichthys, the best three-horned face of the Cretaceous. Also featuring nice spines on the cleithra and anal fin! #FishABC
Pastel Paleotober Day 30: Parasaurolophus 🌷
Parasaurolophus lived in North America (and possibly Asia) during the late Cretaceous. It may have used its large, distinctive crest as a resonance chamber to help amplify its calls and communicate with other members of its species.
Pastel Paleotober Day 24: Juramaia 🐁
Juramaia was a basal eutherian mammal from late Jurassic China and is the earliest known relative of all placental mammals. Its discovery showed that the lineages of placental mammals and marsupials had diverged before the Cretaceous.
Pastel Paleotober Day 19: Spinosaurus 🍐
Spinosaurus hunted in the banks and rivers of what is now North Africa in the late Cretaceous. At 15-16 meters in length, it was the largest theropod and therefore the largest terrestrial carnivore ever.
@susuki_kareno I want to see the Kem Kem beds during the Cretaceous. It would've been a fisherman's dream come true. It used to be home to fish so large that they were preyed upon by Spinosaurus.
Pastel Paleotober Day 8: Sinosauropteryx 💜
Sinosauropteryx was a small, carnivorous dinosaur from northeast China in the early Cretaceous. Fossilized traces of its fuzzy coat showed that feathers were not unique to birds and may have been common among theropods at the time.
#Utahraptor is known from the "Yellow Cat Member" of the Cedar Mountain ecosystem of #Utah dating back to the early #Cretaceous. It is currently the largest known predator from this diverse ecosystem (expand photo below), making it a rare alpha predator in the #raptor family.
The fossilized remains of Xiphactinus, an extinct genus of large (up to 5.1 metre) predatory marine bony fish that lived during the Late Cretaceous. When alive, the fish would have resembled a gargantuan, fanged tarpon (to which it was, however, not related). #FossilFriday
Concavenator, a medium sized theropod (5.8 metres long) from the Early Cretaceous. While no one can say for certain what that strange hump/mini sail was for, it's not crazy to assume it may have been a display structure.
@origamiPete Sachicasaurus vitae, it's closely related to "Kronosaurus" boyacensis (with the latter likely being a species of Sachica) and they're both found in Colombia's Paja formation during the early cretaceous. They coexisted with two other pliosaurids and several other marine reptiles.
An armored #dinosaur from Queensland, Minmi lived about 130mya during the early #Cretaceous. It and its other armored counterparts from #Australia and Antarctica may form their own family, but for now they are all considered "basal" ankylosaurids. #paleontology
Some early character design that I did for Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous. More on: https://t.co/ua09ZALLgz
