OTD (11 Oct 51) the light carrier HMAS Sydney (III) created a record for a light fleet carrier by flying 89 sorties in one day. Sydney was operating against Communist store dumps at Kojo, Korea. Though her sisters operated with 8 different navy's, her record was never beaten.
On this day (11 Oct 1951) HMAS SYDNEY (III) a light aircraft carrier, created a record for a light fleet carrier by flying 89 sorties in one day. SYDNEY was operating against Communist store dumps at Kojo, Korea.
HMAS Sydney (III) was a aircraft carrier operated by the @Australian_Navy from 1948-73 in a number of roles. Sydney served in the Korean War and is seen in that configuration, operating Sea Fury and Firefly fixed wing aircraft and a Sikorsky Dragonfly helicopter.
