The Illithid

For people who dont know: The Illithid or Mindflayer as they are also known as, is a intelligent monster in Dungeon and Dragons that devour brains of other races.
I really dig mindflayers, their lore and legend and they look like Cthulhu! Amazing all around!

Both aberrations (basically Lovecraft monsters) in D&D's lore, Aboleth and Ilithid represent two sides of the same coin. Aboleths represent an ancient foe from when the stars were new, while Mindflayers represent a foe you may yet become: both control minds.

Goodness exists even in the Underdark. Minwhelgos are fanatical warriors of goodness who devote themselves to freeing the oppressed. They especially hate mindflayers and will fight drow. A great creature for any campaign.
