was going through more paintings from earlier in the year and found this sketch, inspired from permian aquatic reptiles

Here's my first ever attempt at paleoart, Struthiocephalus! This was commissioned a while ago for a Permian era themed mod for Path of Titans. Unfortunately the mod got cancelled before this creature came to life, but I did enjoy the process and would love to try this style again

are a pretty massive group of arthropods that spanned from the early Cambrian to the Permian.. They're so common that they make excellent index fossils, meaning they can be used to date other fossils within their strata. This one is based on the genus Paradoxides!

Dimetrodon or “two measures of teeth” is a non mammalian synapsid that is easily recognised by its large sail

At up to 4m long and 250kg in weight, it would have been the apex predator of its Permian ecosystem (~295-272 Ma)

Cotylorhyncus was an herbivorous synapsid that lived during the Permian. It also had a teeny-tiny head. Why was its head so small? I honestly don't know. If you have more info, please let me know, I am begging

The Permian ray-finned fish is long-known, but new data from CT scans gave paleo nerds a better idea of its affinities and suspensorium* anatomy this week, e.g. showing a joint b/w the articular and symplectic.

Episode 2 of Yoofilos struggling to understand the marine life of Permian period; a lousy attempt at Megactenopetalus kaibabanus, a species of large Petalodont "shark"

I feel bad because it looks like a retro Dunkleosteus

I said I love permian every time, but I know absolutely nothing about its marine life, but I like Anisopleurodontis though, they are a like a combination of a shark and a sperm whale, but they are a Eugenodont

Would make sense with the rest of the island already being rich in Triassic and Permian fauna, especially with Pseudosuchians.

The Glyadenov culture was a descendant of the Ananyino culture, carried by the ancestors of Komis on the Kama river from the 3rd c BC to the 5th c AD. Glyadenov is notable for marking the beginning of Permian animal style - a style of mysterious bronze casts made in ancient Perm.

Cotylorhynchus was one of the very first large terrestrial herbivores ever and honestly kind of looks like a first attempt. It was an Early Permian synapsid, a mammal relative rather than an actual reptile.

Wip for a book illustration.

Midnight sketch: richteri. A newly described from
Chilling in a puddle in the shadows of cordaites, unaware of the volcanic eruption that will end his life and enclose him in tuff.
