When I worked as a Seasonal Custodian at Tantallon Castle 1981-89 we kept the grass as short as a bowling green. As the sun set I was able to trace the trench dip shadows where Cromwell's sappers dug towards the V-shaped Ravelin during the 1651 siege.

In 1443 the Red Douglas from Tantallon Castle burnt the lands around Fleming of Boghall Castle (because he was a Black Douglas vassal) Fleming replied by burning Lands beside Tantallon but was unhorsed & thrown in dungeon. Fleming was made Royal cup bearer & had to be set free

Before working at Tantallon Castle in 1981 and being mad about Castles and medieval armour. I was mad on the TV shows of Doctor Who, Space 1999 and the weekly comic of 2000A.D with Judge Dredd. Some of my comic story drawings from 1979 and Dalek comic idea from 2006.

In 1443 Lord Crichton of Crichton Castle and Red Douglas of Tantallon Castle joined forces to raid Black Douglas Vassal lands of Abercorn, Corstorphine and Boghall.

Several Scots lords were in league with the Armada and wanted to overthrow Elizabeth of England. Douglas of Tantallon, Hay of Slains, Gordon of Huntly, Maxwell of Caerlaverock. (MacLean of Duart used Armada troops to attacking Dunyvaig & Mingarry in a local dispute.)

Tantallon Castle (Scotland) In 1548 a French galley was sunk by English vessels. The Castle seagate gunners gave fire to drive off the English. Later on Mary Queen of Scot's French Mother visited the gunners giving them Drink Silver (Beer Money) as a thank you for trying to help.

James 2nd Earl of Douglas of Tantallon unhorsed Hotspur Percy in 1388 stealing Hotspur's banner. Percy tried to steal Douglas's banner at Otteburn but was captured. Douglas was killed by his own armour bearer. His armour bearer was killed soon after before he could be questioned.
