Tantallon Castle my old watercolour of French Galley being sunk by English vessel in 1548. Tantallon's seagate gunners attempted to protect the galley. When Mary of ,Mary Queen of Scot's mother visited she gave the gunners 'drink silver' (Beer money) as a thank you.

Tantallon Castle, East Lothian (Scotland) 1651 siege. Scottish Moss troopers retreat from outer trench to behind V-Shaped Ravelin. Oliver Cromwell's sappers cut trenches into Ravelin to roll cannon closer in for better impact.

Bass Rock beside Tantallon. Prince James fled to Bass in 1406 waiting for a ship to France & safety as rebel Lords attacked his decoy escort army heading back to Edinburgh. James older Brother David had been killed by such rebels in 1402. James was captured by English pirates.

As a boy I was amazed at the work of Alan Sorrell. His reconstruction of Dirleton was the first image of its kind I ever saw. So I copied his techinque of boxing views a section at a time. I used (8 pence) Postcard images in 1981 then scaled up to A3 size (Tantallon example)
