Many think that Misty's mermaid costume is influenced by Disney's Mermaid Ariel, but it's actually influenced by Pipi from Osamu Tezuka's manga-anime, Umi no Toriton. As can be seen, the pearl necklace on the head and the star on the lower body are clear indicators.
