In Somerset folklore, the Apple Tree Man was the name given to the spirit in the oldest tree in the orchard, where the orchard's fertility is thought to reside. Legends say wassailing the tree with cider might convince him to tell you where to find treasure. #FolkloreThursday
Some of this weekend's #SmallBeauties for #SmallBeautiesHour: our online Wassail (wassail!!). Solid Dennis sunning himself on our garden bench; spring is definitely approaching. And new growth Alexanders all over the garden; I adore them & last spring I used some to flavour gin!
@cerysmatthews @BBC6Music @russelldavies63 Not too early to taste the warmth of the ‘Wassail’ is it? Happy Wassailing Cerys 🍎🍏
The #Wassail Queen on Old Twelfth Night, 17th Jan, was often a child. She would knock on the trunk of the oldest tree in the orchard & ask the fertility spirit within, known as the Apple Tree Man, “to awake”. She then placed cider-soaked bread in its branches. #FolkloreThursday

Listener joins Finn in making a special holiday beverage for an upcoming Christmas potluck and attempts to sooth some of his anxiety about the party. Of course, this includes a special lesson about the drink in question, Wassail.

🌟THE LIGHTBRINGERS🌟
For #FolkloreThursday we thought we'd share some of @andtheHare folkloric images. Here's Mari Lwyd. A Welsh tradition: a pale horse that stalks villages with a troup of wassailers, its skull adorned with ribbons and winter foliage. https://t.co/xdlUJHQZAF

The Wassailant, my first solo album, releases on Bandcamp on the 15th December! Folky Christmas shenanigans heading your way...
Really excited to share some of the things I've been working on in lockdown at long last. For now, here's the cover by the fabulous @r_e_wilkinson!
