My favourite kind of book! Flotsam by David Wiesner, Come away from the water, Shirley by John Burningham and The Sea Thing Child by Russell Hoban and Patrick Benson.

I feel like I know so few! Smaug is clearly a classic. I also do love the dragon gag in Wiesner’s Three Little Pigs.

is by William Wiesner for Gunniwolf by Wilhelmina Harper (1967). A curious Jungle-set twist on Red Riding Hood, with deliciously bold illustrations, and a limited palette, which give a clarity and charm to the story, here given an Asian setting.

Did anyone else read/own the book Free Fall by David Wiesner as a kid?

There's no text, and the illustrations are wild! The way objects slowly become other things..

There are many already suggested that I would recommend (wordless masters like Wiesner, Tan and Becker). I came across these relatively recently - sure Simon suggested a while ago. Well worth exploring. They’re by 👌🏼

flotsam by david wiesner: technically this is a picture book & also i do not own it because i gave my copy away BUT. it's a beautiful wordless story about a boy who finds an underwater camera washed up on a beach and the stories the camera holds
