A bike ride to the Nuns moor to look for any migrants today, none in at all, just too chilly for them. The lovely Blackcap pair that seemed to have stayed the winter, were subdued in the hawthorn, w/colour sketch. Have a good night all, thank you for any feedback on the art 👍

Sometimes bird ID is tricky even for the experts. Willow warblers and chiffchaffs look alike but sound different, whilst blackcaps and garden warblers look different but sound alike - one pair is hard to tell apart by sight, whilst the other is hard to tell apart by sound!

Morning lockdown birders. Today's is the 'nightingale of the north', the mellifluous Blackcap. A small warbler with a mighty song, an avian Jimmy Somerville. I call this one Bronsky because he’s hard to beat. Stay safe. xx

Blackcap watercolour study done today, they are more common I think up north these days, as an avid young birder in the seventies I never saw them. Thank you for the feedback and have a good night all 👍

Blackcap pre & post copulation display, Haddington, male holding head almost bashfully away both before & after, whilst both birds then sat 'cuddled' up for few seconds - how I love this time of year!!
