In Ganbare Goemon 3, Ebisumaru's weapon was a hula hoop. After freeing the Red Oni from a mirror, he receives a red and white hula hoop, which allows him to latch onto pegs to climb up or down.

The villager Rizzo's design makes a lot more sense when you realize he's based on Ebisumaru from the Mystical Ninja/Goemon series.
