Etruscan doorway
The Etruscans lived near Rome in the 4th century BC The most characteristic feature of Etruscan architecture is the doorway with sharply tapering sides and an overhanging lintel, sometimes represented,by a carved surround. It probably derived from Egyptian models
My illustrations of Etruscan men dancing to the music of the aulos. I can't tell you how much fun I had drawing these. More coming soon!

@KurdoErgan @Bianca15048017 Volterra, town & episcopal see, Tuscany region, central Italy, northwest of Siena. As the ancient Velathri, 1 of the 12 cities in Etruscan confederation. Became free commune in the 12th century & fell under the domination of the Medici family of Florence in 1361.
Painted plaque from an Etruscan tomb, ca. 470 BC, showing a female musician playing a lyre with a plectron. I enjoy the details in the depictions of the clothing. Provenance sadly limited. #Etruscan #Art

#bsdOC // Our bsd OC Hans' museum is full of historical oddities and mystery artifacts anyway, so in light of the new developments he would be even more fascinated by the boar vessel (not actually) 600-500 BC Etruscan ceramic
..The sulcus primigenius, literally the original furrow, refers to the furrow plowed by priests leading two oxen in an archaic ceremony, probably adopted from the Etruscans, that established a sacred area in the foundation of a new city. 2/2 #classicstwitter #RomanArchaeology
