Here's an interesting story from my small HEMA club.

We were going to do some of Merelo's bayonet vs saber, but we don't have a proper bayonet trainer.

So what we had instead was a rubber knife taped to the end of an ROTC rifle.
Yes, that's just as jank as it sounds.
