AND described the 1st evidence that #Notiomastodon lived up to ~9000 years ago! That means it lived in our current era (the Holocene)!
(the 2 tusks sampled by @marodantas et al, donated by local people)
Goddamn I’m thinking about Prehistoric life again…I need to make my Prehistoric Black Metal project. A requiem for the lost souls before the arrival of the Holocene and the Sins of Mammalian life. Cruel seas, skies full of giants, great and terrible beasts that roam the land

#Dinovember Day 30: Final Boss Fight- The Holocene Extinction
And I have finally reached the end of PR’s 2020 challenge and Dinovember! Here we see one phase of the most recent extinction event, as the last South Island giant moa is flushed out by a man-made fire to its death.
Meiolania was one of the largest tortoises ever, reaching 2.5 metres in length. They lived during the Miocene & Holocene & the last relict populations survived on New Caledonia until 3,000 years ago!

Holocene follows the story of Riley, who's trying to keep their sexuality and questioning gender identity buried as deep in the closet as possible. But when they meet Arsenio, the new transfer student from class 3B, their plan gets pretty much flipped around. Also there's magic.
Desmodus Draculae (2016)
...an extinct species of vampire bat that inhabited South America during the Pleistocene, and possibly the early Holocene. It was 30% larger than the common vampire bat.

I think it's often hard to comprehend the scale of biodiversity loss in North America without proper visuals. Left: A wonderful chart of NA Holocene fauna by Fiona Reid. Right: NA biodiversity during the Rancholabrean, the last period of the Pleistocene, ending 11kya.
@paleorangers #PRDinovember2020 Day 30, and final BOSS FIGHT. This one involves the Holocene extinction, so here's a soon-to-be-extinct South Island giant moa fleeing an attack by human hunters, while an endangered (but still extant) kakapo looks on. https://t.co/FsFKedevPX

Nuralagus rex was a giant rabbit that lived on Minorca until the Pliocene. After Minorca briefly connected with Majorca, Nuralagus is replaced by Myotragus in Pleistocene & Holocene deposits, suggesting the caprine might have outcompeted the leporid.
