International Karate, and IK+ came out reasonably soon after Exploding Fist. And they kinda took all the air out of the room. So I think people forget what a landmark game Exploding Fist was at the time. There was no 8-bit fight-game that could even touch it. It was a stunner. 👊

IK+ would be one heck of a challenge, coz two of the players are sprites, while the other one (or three, in the pause-mode) are characters.🤔 Though I'm not sure if Archer Maclean does any fancy char ⇆ sprite translation on the fly.

IK+ seems to have all of the mindshare these days but, the original International Karate on the C64 is still one heck of a good game. 👍 Even with just one player, it's got a nice ramp-up in difficulty that keeps me feeling challenged. Needs a good joystick though, of course. 😁

IK+ is such a great game. 👍
It took me absolutely years to find out how they did three characters like that. I thought for sure they must be all sprites. Making one out of characters seemed like it would take up so much extra RAM. Surely that would never be done. 😋

I missed all the hype on Rise of the Robots. So when we did see it, we quickly worked out that is wasn't half as much fun as IK+. 😁 (Unless you enjoy fighting games where you just hold jump-kick until you defeat everybody.) 😋

Makes sense:
This is the upside-down world, where white is kicking butt.
In normal IK+ world, red or blue has gone manic, knocking white out, and they stand either side of him, knocking him down again and again, every time he tries to get up.
It has been this way for years. 😐

An interesting case, this one. I really like IK+, but I'm gonna say keep Lotus 2. Because, in my mind, there will still be IK+ on the C64 .. which was even better, in a way: no headbands. 😋
