Alexej von Jawlensky
1915
When the Great War broke out the couple moved to Switzerland. They split in 1918. Wilna (1914), Sturmwind (1914-5), Ameisenhaufen(c1916) & Fantastic Night (1917). Von Jawlensky had cheated on her & her work seemed to reflect her heightened stress at this time
She painted again in 1906 & became an expressionist by 1907. She explored different influences in her work. The couple painted with Münter & Kandinsky in Murnau. Portrait of Werefkin by von Jawlensky (1906), Münter’s Portrait of her (1909), At the Fountain (1908) & Twins (1909)
By 1892 she met Alexej von Jawlensky & together they moved to Munich. She stopped painting to support her husband’s art for 10y. She held a salon & founded the Lukasbruderschaft (St Luke was patron of painters). Portrait (nd), Portrait (c1890)
