My muddy buddy Clay is a wizz at restoring river shoes. He thinks this one is 18th century. It apears to have been damaged before it was lost or discarded in the river since the right latchet appears to have been sliced off, perhaps to remove/reuse the buckle

Sometimes it's the tiniest of objects that tell the greatest stories. This piece of roof tile is twisted and vitrified. I picked it up close to where Pepys sat in a boat 353 years ago watching London burn. More about the Great Fire on my Insta & FB Pages #mudlarking #mudlark
Another gift from the Thames! @LondonMudlark found this beautiful Tudor lace end or aglet a few years ago while mudlarking. You can see how they were worn in the 16thC in these portraits. Hear about some other fab finds in the latest Ep. of #TalkingTudors. https://t.co/lzXGGuyknB
I’ve found well over a thousand clay pipes on the foreshore, but contrary to popular believe they were not thrown away after one smoke. Although they were cheap, they still had value and were used until they were too short for a ‘cool smoke’. #mudlark #mudlarking #londonmudlark
