Found just before lockdown and banishment from the foreshore, this ithe 13 thimble I've found on the Thames and the oldest. It's a beautiful little medieval acorn or beehive thimble and it dates from around the 14th century.

I’ve found well over a thousand clay pipes on the foreshore, but contrary to popular believe they were not thrown away after one smoke. Although they were cheap, they still had value and were used until they were too short for a ‘cool smoke’.
