i only use that method for high res meshes, i often rebuild extracted game meshes for low resolution patterns for pepakura, in which i prefer to clean up with quads
I use crease tool to think about the pattern seamlines before exporting it

Finished the armor, time to run it through Pepakura. The armor itself doesnt really have complicated shapes, but by making the 3D models that fit my own 3D models/3D scan, it makes it a ton easier to get the scale right.

3. Blender (free 3D modelling program!) can be useful. Combine it with Pepakura to easily convert any 3D model into a papercraft!
