#GetYourArtUnderwater #artadventcalendar crosspost - some extinct Cenozoic marine fauna: Parapontoporia, Psephophorus, Inermorostrum, and Allodesmus/Eotaria:
It's #MarinePokemonIRL! Today is Mega Sharpedo, a Sawfish!
The teeth on the side of the nose, or rostrum, are the giveaway! Sawfish use these to stun prey then consume them! The mouth looks more similar to a great white. Cool to see a niche shark represented!

Here is a juvenile American #paddlefish. Largely, my focus was on the intricately developed bone in the rostrum. Crystalline and mesmerizing. For sale on my Etsy soon. Enjoy. #Crystalline #Anatomy #SciArt #Photography #Science #Ichthyology #Art

Chief among the new fossils from that Peru platanistoid paper is the particularly strange dolphin Ensidelphis, with this weird sinusoidal rostrum and premaxillary tusks (a bit like a waipatiid): https://t.co/I4KdGcC5wn
Its #YeOldeAnimals Friday! Today is an 1921 Goblin Shark (Mitsukurina owstoni)!
Published in a Catalog of Australian Fishes, this is an incredibly accurate drawing. It effectively captures the protruding jaws & rostrum, huge tail, & unique body shape. Love this animal!

me artfight attacs, Click Lyric belongs to JoyfulDemolition and Rostrum is @spoonfayse's. They were fun to draw <3
Finally finished this! The Hams and Rostrum by @spoonfayse a bit late for an attack, but well XD
For theme "things that burrow," here's #Tethymyxine tapirostrum, the Cretaceous hagfish described last week. Here it's burrowing into the bloated belly of a mosasaur by tying itself in a knot. Colored pencil on illustration board. #SundayFishSketch
old character, new coat of paint. I might refer to them as Rostrum for now until I come up with a better name.
Let's continue. Gladiopycnodus is probably the best #fish when you search for some alien spaceship inspiration, the armored belly and back, long rostrum and of course the huge anal spines can't be ignored. #SundayFishSketch #Paleoart
