This is La Ghirlandata and Veronica Veronese Alexa Wilding (1847-1884) the model and Rossetti painter. She was his model and muse and there are more paintings of her than Elizabeth Siddall, Jane Morris or Fanny Cornforth. I didn’t know that!
Our PRO Ascensión Soria illustrates the poems of Elizabeth Siddal https://t.co/4kPSHs8925
Elizabeth Siddal
This is Elizabeth Siddal's amazing 1856 painting, Sir Patrick Spens!! #Art #Fineart #Siddal #Painting #Artist #Romanticism #Medievalism #PreRaphaelite
Prints by Sumitra Ramdas, Jo Brown, Suzanne Speak and Ruth Siddals.
Happy Birthday to Elizabeth Siddall! Born #OTD in 1829. Herewith her arresting 'Self-Portrait' (1854), 'Sir Patrick Spens' (1856) 'Lady Clare' (1857) and 'The Lady of Shalott' (1850s)
Also tonight - IN HER OWN WORDS by @msbeckywilkie about artist Elizabeth Siddal. A poet & a painter who's so often talked about in relation to Dante Rossetti or the Pre-Raphaelite brotherhood...but who is she, on her own terms? >> https://t.co/luxzhxjzfG

Lizzie Siddall was the 19th century’s proto-supermodel, and we tend to know her through the filter of the men who painted her. In today's episode of Objects out Loud, discover the real Lizzie - an talented artist and poet - on her own terms.

Can't wait to be able to introduce you all properly to Cal Siddal, my asexual big-bro with a permanent pout and a soft spot for anyone good with his sisters.
This stunning art was done last summer by @Bahsill !
This is Dante Gabriel Rossetti's 1868 painting, The Return of Tibullus to Delia! The image on the right is an earlier version (featuring Elizabeth Siddal) from c.1853! #Art #Rossetti #Painting #Preraphaelite #Victorian #Neoclassical #Tibullus
'Ventnor, Isle of Wight' (1856, Maas Gall) & 'Pear' (@delartmuseum ) by artist & activist Barbara Leigh Smith Bodichon (1827-1891) for #SisterhoodSunday. Bodichon befriended Siddal & Rossetti in Hastings, making this sketch of the former in 1854 (Mark Samuel Lasner Coll Delaware)

More Shakespearian themes for this week's #SisterhoodSunday
Elizabeth Siddal- 'The Macbeths' (c.1860 Ashmolean)
Julia Margaret Cameron- 'King Lear allotting his Kingdom to his three daughters' (1872) & 'Ophelia' (1875)
Lucy Madox Brown- 'Romeo & Juliet' (1870 Wightwick Manor)
A sad coastal tale for this weekend's #SiddalSunday:
'Sir Patrick Spens' takes its subject from an ancient Scottish ballad and is an emotive image of loss & longing as wives & children looks out for a ship's sail which may never appear.... (watercolour, 1856 Tate)
For #FolkloreThursday , some works by Elizabeth Siddal.
She responded to uncanny themes, often from the Border Ballads in her pictures of ‘Clerk Saunders’ & ‘The Rowing Boat’
Here’s a fragment of her own ballad:
‘Many a mile over land and sea
Unsummoned my love returned to me’
Thinking today about poet & painter Elizabeth Siddal who died #OTD 1862. Grateful for these images (made by her husband Rossetti) of Siddal at work.
Esp thankful to scholars who have helped us see beyond the myths inc

Back to Buxton today - (can’t get enough of the Peaks!) - to talk to @TheArtsSociety_ Cavendish about ‘Pre-Raphaelite Sisters’ :
Effie Gray, Jane Morris & Elizabeth Siddal
Sir Patrick Spens by Elizabeth Siddall, 1856 @Tate
In true Pre-Raphaelite fashion, Siddall was a poet painting a poem (Sir Patrick Spens is a traditional Scottish ballad)
