I made this on flipnote Hatena on my 3ds. Exporting from 3ds is oain, god help my sd card adapter. Not much of an animation but i was testing out the tools. Not a fan of tis drawing but at least Fon Mao looks cute. Enjoy :)

Are you specifically exporting the images as APNG's, or are you exporting them as PNG's?

If you have been exporting them as APNG's, I have no idea. As a test, I'll include this sample APNG from the internet to see if it works for me.

James wrote this amazing vector drawing tool in Pico8 that allowed me to create these, and export a string we could use to pull up each portrait without using a up all the tile data. 💙

Yeah, Postmark and Export used to be pretty mushy. Postmark vehemently denies it but Export has a couple pictures showcasing Postmark's "softer" side. Don't let Postmark know though, she'll try to burn them.
