Side characters:
Kizmel and Argo are the best tbh.
Having them active in the plot just makes everything more unique and full of life. They're all very strong as characters even when their arcs are looked at alone as Kizmel's humanity grows & as we peer into Argo's secrets.
World Building:
Featuring all sorts of differing simple and complex maps with all sorts of unique gimmicks to them, they were all put to good use. We even learn of the overall world of Aincrad and its creation in-lore so the entire world felt like it came to life.
