@nershly Still not an expert but that first painting is from 2007. Try not to get too hung up on different brushes and tools. All you need to start is a hard round brush, eye dropper for blending and the eraser. Doing studies of photographs is a great way to git gud fast-

how stereographs work:
Two slightly offset photographs are taken of the same scene (think left eye and right eye)
Although a viewer is essentially required to view stereographs, this gif can help demonstrate, on screen, the stereo effect created by the merging of the two images.
My son took some beautiful photographs and then ‘rendered’ the impressions in some ‘watercolour pencils blending’ he gained from them.
