Try studying clothing dynamics and anatomy structure like below!

For extra effects try making a lighting layer on your layers on add or overlay that works like your shading layers, essentially the third one :]
(Not with white, a bright/saturated color for color if ya want)

something else, look at the style difference on there two, the left seems to steer away from the sharper shading edges gen o had and the halftone inbetween seems to almost be made by some kind of airbrush

It's not a bad shading style! I personally do a lot of soft shading too! It's just a less popular one, to the general masses. I just moved out of a more soft shaded style myself haha, this was my last one!
