Flanagan printed over 10 colour variants of 'Pilgrim' before deciding on the bright red used for an edition of 30 in 1981. Inspired by the Long Man of Wilmington, cut into Windover Hill in Sussex, the linocuts also relate to linear bronze sculptures made in the same year.

Art by Alfredo Alcala for the first MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE mini-comics. 1981. These made such an impression on me as a kid. I’m from Holland, but the comics were in French/German/Italian, so I didn’t know what was going on. It made everything feel alien and sinister. Distant.
