A beetle pattern I made for some clothing designs I wanna make. It has each of my favorite beetles, plus cute little larvae to break the pattern.

The European eel's life history was a mystery for centuries, as fishermen never caught anything they could identify as a young eel. The transparent, leaf-shaped larvae - called leptocephali - begin their journey in the Sargasso Sea before drifting towards Europe

Day 48: American Dipper

This one comes with a little extra since I've been enjoying my vacation in Jasper. The birding is pretty quiet, but the challenge is half the fun!

American Dippers live solely on rocky streams, foraging for insect larvae and small fish!

I got so goddamn sad that Monster Rancher removed the worm from after game 2 :(
Its an absolutely transcendent design that blends all the cutest parts from leeches, caterpillars and beetle larvae! (Oddly enough, not very wormy despite being named Worm)

Your is Megarhyssa macrurus, an amazingly large in the family The females use their remarkable ovipositor to drill into wood and deposit eggs in horntail larvae. Not to worry, they don't sting!

but not all caterpillars have osmeteria. only larvae from the family Papilionidae (AKA swallowtail butterflies) have them.

as we may all know, caterpie will eventually evolve into butterfree, but if you look closely butterfree doesn't have a swallowtail.

butterfree ain't shit.

a quick entomology lesson relating to pokemon:

so the red thing on caterpie's head in real life caterpillars is actually called an osmeterium, and it's a defensive organ that sprouts when papilionidae larvae feel threatened, so

to sum up, caterpie feels 24/7 threatened.
